China , Ai Welwei missing

Reports : Multiple police visits in the week before Artist Ai Welwei was detained triggered fears that this haraassment was dofferent, his wife said yesterday (7th April) " He felt a premonition that he world be detained," said Lu Qing " He told me something might happen to him".

Mr Al is the most prominent target so far in China's crackdown against dozens of Lawers, writers and activits following onlune calls for protests here similar to those in the Middle East and North Africa. The 53 year old has had past run-in with the aithorities, notably his advocacy for victims of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, but his wife said the current situation is worse.

Ms Lu who said her husband was on medication for multiplr illnesses, added "This is very serious. So many people searching the house and it's been more than 48 hours since I've heard from him. I'm very warried about his situation, especially his health."

The pair had discussed the idea of something happen to him, but never dreamt it would see their electric cut off and bank accounts frozen.
